U.S. Army developing tanks with artificial intelligence

ATLAS stands for the Advanced Targeting and Lethality Automated System, which will use artificial intelligence and machine learning to give ground-combat vehicles like tanks the ability to home in on targets on their own. According to a solicitation put out by the Army Contracting Command, the ATLAS system will allow weapons to ‘acquire, identify, and engage targets at least three times faster than the current manual process.’ In other words, the system will allow tanks to figure out who and where to fire at with lightning quick speed, without the need for a human to tell them what to shoot.
